Great design is invisible

A common misconception about design is that every great idea needs to be decorative, which isn't true.
As we progress the design of our everyday items, we tend to find that less becomes more. The prototype ideas are clunky, large, ugly, but functional. The final design is refined, smaller, sleek and more incognito, while still offering the same level of functionality. The invisibility turns a clunky but functional design into a sleek functional masterpiece.
Wires get replaced with Bluetooth, iPhones become slimmer while offering greater capabilities, cash turns into cards to simplify purchases. All of this puts an emphasis on the idea of “making it exist first, then making it good later”.
Pushing the world forward doesn’t always start with more, it actually starts with less.
